Enugu Govt Commences Work For Seven Primary Healthcare Facilities Costing 1 bn
Enugu state government has handed over to contractors, type three primary healthcare centre project
sites, for commencement of work at Nara Unataeze, Nkanu East local government area and Eha-Amufu
in Isi-Uzo.
This is following the approval by the state Executive Council at its last meeting, to embark on the
projects at locations in seven separate local government areas amounting to about one billion naira.
The seven locations of the projects being handed over to contractors which are to be executed
simultaneously according to the council`s approval, are in Nkanu East, Isi-uzo, Igboetiti, Igboeze South, Ezeagu, Udenu and Uzo-Uwani local government areas.
Performing the function on behalf of governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, the state commissioner for works and
infrastructure, Greg Nnaji, said the executive initiative was in keeping with the administration`s avowed
determination to take effective healthcare delivery services to the grassroots.
Nnaji explained that strategy was on the ground for regular project monitoring, to ensure compliance
with specifications and timely delivery of work, adding that the facilities were designed for sustainable
functionality with personnel-friendly amenities.
“There will be everything needed for a standard operational hospital, doctors` quarters, nurses`
quarters, water supply, steady electricity supply and other requirements of a modern health facility”,Nnaji said.
In his remarks, the state commissioner for environment, Chijioke Edeoga who is from the area of one of
the project locations, expressed hope that the facilities would achieve the objective of community
services and commended the governor for his grassroots focus.
Also at Isi-Uzo, the traditional ruler of the community of project location, Imufu-Eha-Amufu, Igwe
Edmund Ogbu, thanked the governor for his reponsiveness to the people`s needs and fulfilment of his
promise to them.
While expressing gratitude to the government for giving them the opportunity, representatives of the
companies handling the projects, Godspower David for the Nkanu East facility and that of Isi-uzo, Elijah
John, promised to deliver the work according to specifications.
Also, the state commissioner for Information, Nnanyelugo Chidi Aroh and his counterpart of Agriculture Natural Resources, Matthew Idu, anchored the site handover exercise at Igboetiti and Uzo-Uwani local government areas respectively.
While that of Igboetiti is sited at Owelle Amokofia Ukehe, the Uzo-Uwani Healthcare Centre is located at a parcel of land between Nkpologu and Uvuru communities.
Meanwhile, the seven primary healthcare centre projects are expected to be simultaneously completed
within three months, according to the contractual agreements.
Also in line with Governor Ugwuanyi’s avowed Committment to improved healthcare system, work has commenced at the Enugu Ezike Health facility after he observed it’s deplorable condition during his visit to the place.
In the same vein, the governor’s unscheduled visit to the Oji River General Hospital has yielded immediate commencement of rehabilitation work thereat as he indicated after being taken round the dilapidated facility by the hospital’s Chief Medical Director in company of the Permanent Secretary, state ministry of health, Dr Ifeanyi Agujiobi.
The permanent Seçretary had on arrival at the hospital, given the historical background of the facility and highlighted areas of need for intervention.
The pre-colonial health facility also houses the isolation and treatment unit for leprosy patients, who were seen on ground during the visit and with manifest renewal of hope on sighting the governor.
