ENUGU STATE JUDICIAL PANEL OF INQUIRY ON POLICE BRUTALITY HAS EXPRESSED DISMAY OVER A RUMOUR BEING PEDDLED AROUND THAT THE PANEL HAS BEEN ON STRIKE PURPORTEDLY FOR NON -PAYMENT OF CERTAIN ALLOWANCES TO MEMBERS OF THE PANEL.

IN A STATEMENT SIGNED BY THE SECRETARY, ONOCHIE NGWUOBUNA, THE PANEL DESCRIBED THE RUMOUR AS UNFOUNDED AND FALSE, EXPLAINING THAT THE ONLY FEW DAYS IT CEASED SITTING WAS WHEN THE CHAIRMAN TOOK ILL, BUT HAD RESUMED NORMAL PROCEEDINGS LONG AGO AS HE REGAINED HEALTH AND URGED THE PUBLIC TO DISCOUNTENANCE THE MISLEADING INFORMATION AND COUNTINUE TO ATTEND THE SITTINGS AS SCHEDULED.
THE STATEMENT FURTHER EXPRESSED THE PANEL’S AVOWED DETERMINATION TO ENSURE JUSTICE DELIVERY IN LINE WITH THE PROVISIONS OF THE LAW THAT SET IT UP, WITHOUT FEAR OR FAVOUR.
THE SEVEN-MAN RETIRED JUSTICE KINGSLEY UDEH-LED JUDICIAL PANEL OF INQUIRY , SET UP IN OCTOBER LAST YEAR TO INVESTIGATE ALLEGATIONS OF POLICE BRUTALITY AND EXTRA-JUDICIAL KILLINGS, FOLLOWING EVENTS OF THE ENDSARS PROTESTS, HAS BEEN MEETING ACCORDINGLY SINCE ITS INAUGURAL SITTING ON NOVEMBER 16, 2020.
