Nsukka Journalists Want NASS To Facilitate Adada State Creation
…Ask For More Infrastructure To Balance Zonal Development
Journalists from the Nsukka cultural zone of Enugu state, have called on the National Assembly to facilitate the creation of Adada state out of the present Enugu, observing that Nsukka remains about the only province of the colonial government in Nigeria that has not graduated into a state.
The journalists under the aegis of Nsukka Journalists Foundation, made the call in a communique issued at a summit in Nsukka, which was attended by dignitaries across the area, including the state governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi who is also the Foundation’s Grand Patron.
In the communique co-signed by the chairman of the foundation, Chijioke Amu-Nnadi, the secretary, Brendan Eze and members of its drafting committee chaired by Ike Ugbor, the journalists further called on the state government to up development activities in the zone and bridge the gap between it and other zones in the state, occasioned by decades of neglect by past administrations.
In the light of the rising insecurity in the country, the foundation asked for the protection of communities in the area against incessant terrors unleashed on them by suspected herdsmen, while urging the people of the zone and the entire country to, within the confines of the law, be prepared to defend themselves against such violent acts.
They maintained that governments at all levels should of priority, provide the enabling environment for job creation for the teeming youths, as a measure to discourage crimes and criminalities.
The Nsukka Journalists Foundation observed with delight, great interest shown by Governor Ugwuanyi in partnering the foundation in its advocacy towards advancing development of the zone and called for the people’s support to the state administration.
The journalists however, expressed dismay over the reluctance of local government council authorities in the zone to collaborate with the foundation on its mission of advocating better service delivery to improve living standard of the people, and resolved to set up a committee that would undertake on-the-spot investigation of development activities of the council authorities.
The NJF summit was chaired by former senator that represented Enugu North senatorial district, Chief Ayogu Eze,who is also a member of the foundation, while the current representative of the district, Senator Chukwuka Utazi was among the dignitaries that graced the occasion.
NJF is a collection of membership from the six local government areas of Enugu North senatorial district and Isi-Uzo.
