The traditional ruler of Ogurugu community in Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu State, Igwe Emmanuel Egwuaba, and members of his community, Sunday, committed to backing and contributing land for the proposed naval base in the area.

During a recent visit by a government committee led by the Deputy Governor of Enugu State, Ifeanyi Ossai, and Rear Admiral Chijioke Onyemaobi, of the Nigerian Navy, the community expressed their enthusiasm for the initiative.

Igwe Egwuaba conveyed the community’s gratitude for the intervention and highlighted the potential economic benefits of the base, including increased investment and essential amenities.

He further affirmed the community’s readiness to cooperate and provide land for the project, emphasising its positive impact on the state’s economy and also requested support for agricultural development.

A stakeholder from the community, Chief James Ademu, re-echoed the commitment of the people of the area, stating that the project was highly anticipated and would uplift the community.

On the part of the Nigerian Navy, Rear Admiral Onyemaobi explained that the committee sought the community’s cooperation in ensuring the naval base’s success. He emphasised the strategic attributes of the proposed location and its potential to enhance security and the economy.

The Deputy Governor Ifeanyi Ossai assured that the government was committed to the project’s realisation and asked the community for full collaboration for its swift completion. Local government officials and stakeholders expressed gratitude and pledged support for the initiative.

The proposed naval base is expected to bolster security, economic growth, and agricultural development in the region.
