NANS Blows Hot, Asks ESUT To Cease Draconian Laws on Students
National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, has threatened to hold all activities to a standstill at ESUTH College of Medicine if the school authorities fail to revert the original order in school fees and the rule of resit for medical students on 3rd MBBS.
In a conference report after the South Eastern convention of NANS presented by national ex- officio, Juliet Obinta, the students body lamented that the draconian laws of tertiary institutions in the zone had begun to take a huge toll on the students and their sponsors and were left with no choice but to cry out and embark on a peaceful protest.
Also, NANS Deputy Coordinator, South East, Francis Chidobe, insisted that they would not allow any examination to take place in the college of medicine tomorrow (3/10/23) if the 3rd MBBS students are not allowed to resit their deficient courses as obtainable nationwide.

NANS ZONE F CONFERENCE REPORT ON 2ND OF OCTOBER 2023
On ESUT College of Medicine resit exam slated to start tomorrow 3rd of October, 2023All the students of 3rd MBBS (400 Level) are to partake in the resit Exam regardless of the number of courses they failed. The harsh unwritten law/rule which is said to be under review won’t hold for them until proper assessment and modality is set. As it stands, such law is not contained in their College handbook and is not certified properly by the ESUT Senate. The College of Medicine management as a matter of fact should desist from victimizing students on the guise of harsh laws. This particular law is harsh, wicked and it’s not obtainable in any college of medicine.Consequently, the resit exam to start tomorrow being 3rd of October, 2023 is to be canceled with immediate effect. The exam is to be given an extension of 1 month. This time period is to allow/enable this psychologically disoriented students to properly prepare and participate in the resit exam.A circular/memo is to be released to the notice of the students and the management as regards that. Failure to respond to this as soon as possible will be met with peaceful resistance from NANs. Failure to do as demanded by NANs and the affected students, the zonal leadership will take necessary actions.On school fees Increment: The NANs zonal leadership via this convention urges all the institutions within the zone that have increased their fee to revert with immediate effect as the zonal leadership of NANs have set up a panel to probe such unrealistic fee increment. Such development by Institution is harsh where the country economy is at its worst state. The current economic hardship in the country is telling heavily on all and sundry. So many have dropped out, others are engaging into crime because of that. The least the Institution should do, is to ameliorate the student’s condition by stopping unnecessary and senseless hiking of fees. By this convention the NANs leadership urges the Universities within the zone to revert to the original amount with immediate effect.On the issue of recurring death in ESUT: The ESUT management refuted this development concerning the sudden and preventable deaths of students within the university. Yet again, a student of the university, ESUT by name Nnaji Victoria Chizoba, in 500 level, department of urban and regional planning, who happen to be a Senator of 14th parliament of the University passed away on September 30th 2023 due to lack of inhaler within the ESUT medical clinic to arrest her asthmatic attack. This recent death and many others could be attributed to non functional and ill equipped medical center in ESUT. NANS zone F is aggrieved by the demise of these distinguished students and have raised concern as regards the debilitated medical center in the University. Now, we won’t keep quiet over that as we can’t continue to lose our dear students due to the mismanagement by the university.
