Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu state says the appeal court judgement in his favour is consistent with the mandate of the people of the state at the governorship election on March 18, 2023 which was earlier decided by the Enugu state elections petition tribunal sitting in Enugu.
Governor Mbah made the remarks while addressing the people in reaction to the judgement of the appellate court sitting in Lagos which dismissed the appeal filed by the governorship candidate of the Labour Party, Chijioke Edeoga as lacking in merit.
“The judgement of the appellate court is consistent with the earlier dismissal of same matter filed before the Enugu state election Petition tribunal.
“Both judgements are consistent and in line with the mandate fully given to us by the great people of Enugu state in the March 18 gubernatorial election. They further reaffirm our belief in the judiciary as the last hope of the common man”, the governor said.
Governor Mbah commended the justices of the appeal court for sustaining the tempo of noble justice delivery.
“I want to also thank the great people of Enugu state for their endurance in the face of palpable untruth purveyed just to paint their government black”, he acknowledged.
The governor promised that the judgement was a veritable instrument for his administration to further demonstrate its disposition and commitment to making the state a rare destination for infrastructural and economic development, and described the court verdict as a victory for the people.Gov. “Permit me also to state that this is not a victory for Peter Mbah as a governor. It is a victory for water that will run in taps of Enugu homes in less than twenty days.
“It is also a victory that will make Enugu state a road construction site; and we are talking about the length and breadth of Enugu state being transformed to a road construction site. It’s also a victory that will ensure that we have smart schools across the two hundred and sixty wards of Enugu state”, the governor stated.
He further promised that he would continue to deploy all efforts to consolidate on the gains so far made and thanked the people of the state for their trust in and support for his administration, assuring them that they would not be disappointed.
Meanwhile, various personalities have continued to assess the value of the appeal court judgement that reaffirmed the victory of the Enugu state governor, Dr Peter Mbah.
In his comments, the Administrator of Ugwunye/Ezedike development area, Chief Joe Anieze, described it as an option for good governance for the state.
Chief Anieze said any other verdict could have been a disaster to the people, considering what they were already seeing on the ground. Chief Joe Anieze- Ugwunye/Ezedike Boss

“Whatever action taken in a democratic environment that is not in the interest of the people, is counterproductive and in contrast with the people -centredness of the system. In this regard, all the agencies of government including judiciary are deployed to work towards the direction of making life better for the people not the other way round”, Anieze opined.
He commended the team of justices for toeing the line of upholding the tenets of the judiciary as the last hope of the common man through passage of acceptable judgements.
