…Orders Full Enforcement
Commissioner of Police, Enugu state command, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu, has reiterated that the ban on the sale and unauthorised use of fireworks, commonly called “knockout” or “banger,” in the State is still in force.
In a statement signed by the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, CP Uzuegbu highlighted the dangers associated with letting off fireworks to include criminals using it to perfect their criminal intentions, creating tension, and the general hazards igniting fireworks could pose to human life and property, due to their high tendency to cause bodily injuries and fire outbreaks, especially in this harmattan season.
The CP, warned dealers and users of fireworks to desist forthwith and cautioned parents and guardians to guard their children and wards against buying and igniting fireworks, emphasising that violators would be made to face the full weight of the law.
Consequently, the Commissioner has ordered all Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and Heads of Tactical Units of the Command, to ensure that the ban was enforced to the latter.
He further ordered them to put in place watertight security in their areas of responsibility this Yuletide, warning that security breaches of any form in their areas of coverage would not be tolerated.
“The CP wishes the citizens of Enugu State a merry Christmas and a fruitful New Year ahead, while urging them to remain law-abiding, vigilant and promptly report criminals and their activities to the nearest Police Station, or by alternatively calling the Command’s emergency hotlines on 08032003702, 08075380883, 08086671202 or 08098880172, or sending emails to infoenugupolice@gmail.com”, the statement concluded.
