Done Deal: Supreme Court Upholds Tribunal, Appeal Court Judgements On Governor Mbah’s Election Victory
…as the governor says distractions over, work redoubles
The Supreme Court has affirmed the election of Peter Mbah of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the governor of Enugu state.
A five-member panel of the court unanimously dismissed two appeals filed by the Labour Party (LP) and its candidate, Jonathan Edeoga.
Justice Mohammed Garba, in the lead judgment, held that the appellants failed to prove their case and proceeded to uphold the judgment of the Court of Appeal, which equally affirmed the decision of the trial tribunal, dismissing the petition by the LP and Edeoga.
Both the tribunal and Appeal Court upheld the declaration of Mbah as the winner of the March 18th Governorship poll by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
Meanwhile, the Enugu State Governor,
has promised to redouble pace of development as the distractions have been laid to rest following his Supreme Court victory.
Dr Peter Mbah in his reaction to the victory on Friday, reiterated his avowed commitment to delivering on his campaign promises, stating “it is time for focused governance as litigations are over”.
“Now that these distractions are over, it’s time to redouble our effort to serve you. We’ll double down on our earlier resolve to serve you with every fiber of our being. The reward of your resolute support will come in our rededication to do things that have to do with ordinary people of Enugu State”, the governor further assured.
Describing the supreme court affirmation of his victory at the appellate court sitting in Lagos on November 10,2023, as the beginning of the overall development of the state for the good of Ndi Enugu, Dr Mbah said his administration was never being deterred in delivering quality service to the people.
He extolled the supreme court justices for upholding the will of justice and the people’s mandate,
and assured that his administration would keep pace with the realities of the needs of the ENUGU people.
Dr Mbah who said the people of the state had not seen anything yet in the development trajectory of his administration, noted that the rewards of Enugu People’s resolute support was underway.
“Now that these distractions are over, it’s time to redouble our effort to serve you. We’ll double down on our earlier resolve to serve you with every fiber of our being. The reward of your resolute support will come in our rededication to do things that have to do with ordinary people of Enugu State.”
He said he would give more attention to the welfare and development of the people.
The governor called on the people to continue praying for the success of his administration in order to Enugu to the ultimate state of our dream.
