NULGE Asks FG To Reverse Petrol Price With Immediate Effect
Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, NULGE, has condemned the incessant increase in the prices of petroleum products in the country and its attendant hardship on her members and asked the federal government to reverse the prices without further delay.
This was part of the communiquē issued at the end a bimonthly South East zonal meeting of the Union held at Uwakwe Ezeja(NULGE) House, Enugu.
The communiquē reads in full below:
“The NULGE South East condemns in its entirety the incessant increases in the pump prices of petroleum products and the attendant excruciating economic hardship it has brought to her members and calls on the Federal Government for a reversal without further delay.
“The meeting commends the Government of Enugu State for setting up a committee on the implementation of the 70,000 Minimum Wage, the Governor of Ebonyi for pledging to pay the new minimum wage and urges other States in the South East to take honest steps towards the implementation of the new minimum wage.
“The South East also commends the Supreme Court for harkening to the cries of NULGE by judicial affirmation of Local Government autonomy and urges the States in South East to take practical steps towards giving effect to the judgement of the apex court on Local Government autonomy
“Finally, the South East while not condoning ghost workers and truancy, decries the incessant staff verification exercises going on in some states in the South East and the concomitant untold and untoward hardship on genuine workers who are being owed salaries for various months for no fault of theirs, and urges the governments of those states to defray the arrears of salaries owed the genuine workers inadvertently affected by the verification exercises”.
