Gov. Mbah Reiterates Commitment To Quality Healthcare Delivery

The Governor of Enugu State, Dr Peter Mbah has reiterated his unwavering commitment to providing and maintaining a healthy and qualitative healthcare service delivery in the state.
Governor Peter Mbah represented by the Acting Managing Director Enugu State Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency, Dr Chika Mbah made the statement during a sensitisation visit at the community of Ndi-agu Nkwubo, Enugu East Local Government Area of Enugu State.
The meeting which was held at the Community Primary School Ndiagu Nkwubo, brought together representatives across the various tiers of Government and array of Stakeholders from the Community.
The Acting Managing Director EN-RUWASSA, noted that the Meeting was aimed at assessing the outbreak of cholera; the remote and immediate causes, impacts, and strategies for sustainability. Con?In his words of admonition, she explained that cholera outbreak is usually caused by contamination of water sources and poor sanitation facilities in the affected areas as it is not an air-borne disease but rather a water borne disease that thrives due to unclean water and dirty environment.
Dr Chika Mbah, advised that to prevent the disease, residents should wash their hands frequently with soap, ash and clean running water. She further warned them against open defecation and improper disposal of waste.
She underscored the importance of collaboration in achieving the state long term goals while emphasising the need for data driven disease control strategies and identified challenges affecting or surrounding them.
Consequently on this, the Acting Managing Director, EN-RUWASSA, Dr Chika Mbah implored them to use this occasion to choose and select their own W.A.S.H committee members as every ward in the state is expected to choose and select their WASH Committee Members for quick access and implementation of rural water policy.
The MD EN-RUWASSA, thanked the people of Ndiagu Nkwubo for their continuous support stating that the preset administration under the leadership of Governor Peter Mbah has their interest at heart and that the impacts would be soon felt.
Chairman, Enugu East Local Government Council,Pastor Beloved-Dan Anike also used the occasion to notify both existing and intending Landlords in the area that the council would in 3 months start enforcing an Order against Landlords whose buildings have no toilet.
Pastor Anike noted that his administration was working relentlessly to curb the menace of cholera outbreak in the area adding that a lot of measures had been lined up to tackle the epidemic.
He outlined these measures to include; complete medical screening package with professional medical personnel, formation and mobilisation of WASH committee, and execution of toilet facilities in selected public places, among others.
Pastor Dan Anike also assured the community that his administration would provide them with basic social amenities to improve their living standard.
He also used the occasion to sensitise them on the SMART School of the State Government, promising that the council would provide them with mobility that could be taking the students to the host ward where the SMART School for their ward is situated. In the same vein, he assured them that he would complete some of the uncompleted school blocks of the said Primary School.
Earlier in his welcome address, the President-General of Ndiagu Nkwubo Community, Ikechukwu Nwafor, commended the present administration under the leadership of Dr Peter Mbah for making giant strides.
Chief Nwafor also described the visit as historic resolving that it is the first time over decades that government authorities either from State or Local government visited the community.
He noted that so far eleven (11) persons had lost their lives since the outbreak of the disease in December, 2024; which he attributed to poor road in the area and absence of other basic social amenities in the community.
