Enugu New CP Mamman Assumes Office 
The new Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Police Command, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, has officially assumed duty as the 29th Commissioner of Police.
His predecessor, AIG Kanayo Uzuegbu, has been redeployed following his promotion to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG).
The CP who is a native of Paikoro, Niger State, also holds a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Economics from the prestigious Bayero University, Kano (BUK). He joined the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police in 1994 and has held several key positions, including Personal Assistant to the Commissioner of Police and Police Public Relations Officer of the Gombe State Command.
He has served in multiple capacities within the Police Mobile Force (PMF), including as Commanding Officer of No. 3 PMF Squadron, Enugu; Second-in-Command of No. 11 PMF, Calabar; and Unit Commander in No. 14 and No. 18 PMF Squadrons in Yola and Owerri, respectively. Additionally, he served as the Chief Superintendent of Police Administration (CSP ‘A’), Assistant Commissioner (AC) and Deputy Commissioner (DC) of the Police Mobile Force, Force Headquarters, Abuja.
CP Giwa’s experience extends to being the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Kafin Hausa Division, Jigawa State Command, and holding leadership roles within the Police Special Fraud Unit (PSFU), Force CID, Abuja. He also served as the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), X-Squad, at the FCT Command, Abuja, and as the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) in charge of Operations in both Imo and Kaduna States’ Commands.
He was the Police Component Commander of the Operation Whirl Punch in Kaduna State, which is now the Joint Task Force in the North-West Zone code-named Operation “Fansan Yamma”. He also served as the Acting Commissioner of Police in Imo and Kaduna States’ Commands. Until his recent promotion and posting as Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command, he was the DCP in charge of Community Safety and Crime Prevention in the Department of Operations, Force Headquarters, Abuja.
CP Giwa has undergone extensive professional training, including combat and operational courses at the PMF Training College, Gwoza, Borno State; the Advanced Detective Course (ADC); and the Tactical Leadership and Command Course (TLCC) at the Police Staff College, Jos. He also participated in an European Union (EU) training on Countering Violent Extremism.
His dedication to service has earned him numerous awards, including the Inspector-General of Police Commendation for Merit, the Best Squadron Award by Security Watch Africa while serving as Commanding Officer of No. 3 PMF, Enugu, and the Best Unit Commander Award by the PMF Training College, Gwoza, Borno State.
Happily married with children, CP Giwa enjoys physical exercise, table tennis, and basketball. He brings over 30 years of operational, administrative, and professional policing expertise to Enugu State and is committed to implementing a professional, proactive, and people-friendly policing strategy in line with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun.

Mr Sam read Mass Communication, graduating all with Distinction in National Diploma, Higher National Diploma and Postgraduate Diploma at IMT, Enugu and Madonna University, Okija, Anambra state, while he is presently on his M.Sc programme also in Mass Communication, at National Open University of Nigeria.
He is currently the NUJ Chairman, Enugu state.
