Transportation Made Easy: Dr Peter Mbah Commissioning Five Bus Terminals In Enugu State

In a move poised to redefine urban transportation in Enugu State, the governor, Dr Peter Mbah commissioned five newly constructed bus terminals on Thursday, (14/8/25), marking a significant milestone in his administration’s agenda for sustainable and efficient public transport. The event, attended by dignitaries from various sectors, community leaders, and the public, bears testimony to a transformative vision for the state’s infrastructure and economic development.
The commissioned bus terminals, strategically located at Holy Ghost Park, Garki Awkunanaw, Abakpa Nike, Ninth Mile Corner, and Nsukka, represent a key component of the governor’s broader initiative to enhance urban mobility and provide reliable, organised transportation for the state’s citizens. These facilities are not just transport hubs but are designed to integrate seamlessly into the daily lives of Enugu’s residents, making commutes smoother and reducing the congestion that plagues urban centres.
During the ceremony, Governor Mbah emphasised the importance of these terminals in fostering connectivity and accessibility. “Today, we are not just opening bus terminals; we are opening doors to opportunities, accessibility and an improved quality of life for the people of Enugu State,” he declared.

The terminals are equipped with modern amenities, including waiting lounges, ticketing systems, and real-time information displays to keep commuters informed of bus schedules and arrivals. These enhancements are expected to significantly improve the daily commuting experience, with an emphasis on safety, comfort, and efficiency.
Moreover,in a groundbreaking move towards environmentally friendly public transportation, Dr Mbah unveiled a fleet of intrastate Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses during the commissioning ceremony. “The introduction of CNG buses epitomises our commitment to environmental sustainability,” he noted. “These buses produce fewer emissions compared to traditional diesel-powered vehicles, thereby contributing to a cleaner, healthier city.”
The CNG buses numbering 100, are anticipated to replace older models, reducing both the ecological footprint and the noise levels in urban areas, while also promising lower operational costs in the long run. This progressive approach reflects the governor’s recognition of the pressing need for sustainable practices in governance, especially in the face of climate change.
As part of a larger vision, the establishment of these bus terminals and the deployment of CNG buses align with the Enugu State Transport Master Plan, aiming to create an integrated and efficient transportation network throughout the state. Plans are underway for further enhancements, which include potential expansions and collaboration with private sector players to optimise operations and extend services to nearby communities.
In his closing remarks, Governor Mbah urged the public to embrace the new initiatives as a collective responsibility, encouraging citizens to utilise public transportation as a means of reducing individual carbon footprints. “When we choose public transport, we contribute to the reduction of traffic congestion, we protect our environment, and we promote a sense of community,” he pointed out.
The commissioning ceremony concluded with cheers and excitement from the gathered crowd, symbolising hope for a future where public transport in Enugu State would not only be efficient and affordable but also environmentally conscious. With these significant steps taken, Governor Peter Mbah has laid down a marker for progress, galvanising Enugu towards an era of sustainable development and modernised infrastructure.
