Poultry Farmers Reawakened To New Technologies For Increased Production
Poultry Association of Nigeria (PAN), South East zone, has advised its members in the region to embrace new technologies and modern practices for better production.
National Vice President, PAN, South East zone,Chief Izuolisa Onu gave the advice on Thursday at the ongoing 2025 Eastern International Poultry Summit in Enugu.
He said that although the poultry business was dynamic with challenges, it remained a very viable business.
“We must be ready to develop our knowledge; build our capacities; and improve on our efficiency to be able to grow.
“At this summit, let us embrace the new technologies and practices being presented, ” he said.
Onu stressed the need for members of the association in the zone to come together to drive the growth of the poultry industry in the South East region.
“As ongoing collaborations with government and partners are deepened, we must be prepared to tap into the opportunities that stem from there, ” Onu said.
Speaking, the Enugu State Commissioner for Agriculture and Agro Industrialisation, Mr Patrick Ubru described the occasion as very timely and apt.
“This summit comes at a pivotal moment for our state, the poultry and the wider livestock sector across the southeast, as we continue to pursue a future of sustainable growth, functionalism and resilience.
“Over the past two years, since Gov. Peter Mbah came into office in 2023, his administration had remained safer in its commitment to transforming agriculture and agro industry, ” he said.
According to him, the Enugu State government had prioritised the agricultural sector as a driver of economic development and growth aligned with the governor’s vision.
Ubru said that the commitment was being realised through bold investments in technology enabled extension services and strategic partnerships.
“Underpinning this commitment include participation in and support for the World Bank assisted livestock productivity resilience Support Project, the helpers to enhance productivity, resilience and our farmers livelihood.
“Also, the construction and imminent commissioning of a regional Veterinary Hospital here in Enugu, a facility designed to strengthen disease surveillance, prevention and timely clinical services across the South East region.
“Comprehensive capacity building for livestock and poultry farmers with significant participation from women and youth, ” he said.
Also speaking, the state President of PAN, Chief Sunny Ezeobiorah said that the demand for protein was growing, both in the region and Nigeria at large.
He said that poultry farmers both in the South East and Nigeria in general, were in prime position
to seize this opportunity.

“It is a professional, high impact business; it is a new era professionalism.
“Our sector means embracing a new way of thinking, ” Ezeobiorah said.
