Private Jet Carrying 11 Nigerians Crash-Lands at MAKIA- All Onboard Safe, Investigation Underway
A private jet operated by Flybird Aircraft Management Services Limited crash-landed at Malam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA) on Sunday morning, sending shockwaves through airport staff and travellers.
The flight, originating from Abuja, touched down at about 9:30 a.m with 11 people on board, including eight passengers and three crew members.
Eyewitnesses described tense moments as the aircraft experienced an unusual landing, prompting an immediate and orderly evacuation. Thanks to swift action by the flight crew and emergency responders, all occupants disembarked safely, and no injuries or fatalities were reported.
Flybird confirmed that the jet, registered 5N-ISB, encountered an operational issue during arrival, but the flight crew followed established safety protocols, brought the aircraft to a safe stop, and ensured the wellbeing of everyone onboard.
Following the incident, airport authorities and emergency teams secured the scene, and a detailed technical inspection and formal investigation have been launched by the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) to determine the exact cause of the crash-landing.
The NSIB’s involvement underscores the regulatory emphasis on aviation safety, and the outcome of the investigation is expected to shed light on whether mechanical, operational, or environmental factors contributed to the incident.
