Attah Wins Rukyatu Danjuma Prize at NMMA 2025
Comrade Aloysius Emeka Attah of The Sun Newspapers, at the weekend, emerged winner of the Rukyatu Danjuma Prize for Health Reporter of the Year at the 2025 Nigeria Media Merit Award (NMMA), held at the Lagos Continental Hotel, Victoria Island.
Attah, a member of the Correspondents Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Anambra State Council, clinched the coveted prize after a keen contest with Clifford Ndujihe of Vanguard Newspaper and Eno Abasi Sunday of The Guardian.
The award ceremony, which attracted leading media professionals, industry stakeholders and dignitaries from across the country, marked the 33rd edition of the NMMA, widely regarded as the most prestigious journalism award in Nigeria and across Africa.
Organisers and members of the panel of judges disclosed that about 800 entries were received from journalists nationwide across various categories, underscoring the competitiveness and credibility of the awards.
They noted that Attah’s health reports stood out for their depth, originality, public interest value and adherence to the highest ethical standards of journalism, qualities that ultimately earned him the top honour in the category.
The Nigeria Media Merit Award is patterned after the British Media Awards and is designed to celebrate excellence, professionalism and integrity in journalism, while encouraging journalists to uphold best practices in the discharge of their duties.
Attah’s victory is seen as a boost to health reporting in Nigeria and a further affirmation of The Sun Newspapers’ commitment to impactful, people-oriented journalism.
