Enugu Govt Dismisses Claims of Ceding Ette Community to Kogi
The Enugu State Government has dismissed as false an online report alleging that the National Boundary Commission (NBC) has ceded Ette, a border community in Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area, to Kogi State.
In a statement issued on Friday, the Secretary of the Enugu State Boundary Committee, Dr Solomon Ejim, described the report as fake and misleading, stressing that the NBC has not taken any decision on the long-standing interstate boundary dispute between Enugu and Kogi states.
According to the statement, the state government has also contacted the Director-General of the NBC, who unequivocally disowned the report, describing it as outrightly false and not emanating from the commission.
“The attention of the Enugu State Government has been drawn to a fake and misleading online report claiming that the National Boundary Commission has made a decision on the age-long interstate boundary dispute between Enugu State and Kogi State, to the effect that Ette community in Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area of Enugu State has been administratively ceded to Kogi State,” the statement said.
“The Enugu State Government wishes to state categorically that the report is fake. The Director-General of the NBC, who was contacted by the government, vehemently debunked and disowned the report as outrightly false and not originating from the commission.”
The government, therefore, urged the people of Ette community, Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area, and Enugu State at large to disregard the report, describing it as the handiwork of mischief makers.
Residents were also advised not to entertain any anxiety but to go about their normal activities, as no resolution has been reached by the National Boundary Commission regarding the Enugu – Kogi boundary dispute.
