Defections Won’t Save You, Mbaka Knocks Tinubu, Slams ‘Heartless’ Tax Policies

The Spiritual Director of Adoration Ministry Enugu Nigeria (AMEN), Rev. Fr Ejike Mbaka, has warned President Bola Ahmed Tinubu that mass defections to the All Progressives Congress (APC) will not guarantee political continuity or electoral success, urging the Federal Government to prioritise compassion in governance.

In a strongly worded message, the outspoken cleric criticised the administration’s tax policies, describing the introduction of additional taxes at a time of widespread economic hardship as unjust and insensitive to the plight of ordinary Nigerians.

“There is nothing wrong with paying taxes,” Mbaka said, “but at a time like this, imposing taxes on the people is like wickedness.”

He cautioned that political dominance or alignment cannot substitute for public goodwill, stressing that leadership must be anchored on responsiveness to citizens’ suffering and economic realities.

“Even if every governor joins the APC, you will fail,” he declared, emphasising that the loyalty of the people, rather than party strength, ultimately determines political survival.

Fr Mbaka’s comments come amid growing public dissatisfaction over the rising cost of living, sweeping economic reforms, and tax measures introduced by the Tinubu administration, which critics say have further strained already burdened households.
