Bail Saga: ‘Karma at Work,’ Kanu’s Lawyer Taunts Malami Over EFCC Action
Mr Aloy Ejimakor, legal consultant to the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has launched a blistering reaction to the withdrawal of bail earlier granted to former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The EFCC had reportedly revoked Malami’s bail over alleged violations of the conditions attached to it. However, Malami’s media aide, Mohammed Bello Doka, swiftly dismissed the allegation, insisting that the former AGF did not breach any bail terms.
According to Doka, the bail revocation was linked solely to Malami’s attendance at a political event in Kebbi State and not to any infraction of the conditions set by the anti-graft agency. He described reports suggesting otherwise as “misleading and contrary to the facts.”
Reacting to the development, Ejimakor took to X (formerly Twitter), where he accused Malami of now tasting the same impunity and disregard for the rule of law which, he claimed, defined Malami’s tenure as Nigeria’s chief law officer.
Urging Malami to “carry his cross,” Ejimakor alleged that the former AGF played a central role in the revocation of Kanu’s bail and his subsequent extraordinary rendition from Kenya, which he said violated international law.
He wrote: “Malami’s continued detention amidst his back-and-forth ‘bail issues’ with EFCC exemplifies how Malami falsely accused Mazi Nnamdi Kanu of ‘jumping bail,’ got his bail revoked and okayed the extraordinary rendition that convulsed Nigeria. Truly, what goes around, comes around.”
The latest exchange has reignited debate over the handling of high-profile legal cases in Nigeria, reflecting unresolved grievances surrounding past government actions and the continuing intersection of law, politics and accountability.
