Explosion Rocks Kebbi Hospital, No Casualties Recorded

An early-morning explosion on Tuesday shook the General Hospital in Bagudo Local Government Area of Kebbi State, prompting a swift security response and the deployment of specialised units to the scene.

Confirming the incident, the Kebbi State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, said security agencies immediately moved in to secure the area following the blast. He explained that a joint security team comprising the police, military and vigilante operatives cordoned off the vicinity, while Explosive Ordnance Disposal–Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) experts were deployed to assess the situation.

Usman said no lives were lost in the incident, noting that although a building within the hospital’s staff quarters sustained damage, all occupants had evacuated before the explosion.

“We are grateful to confirm that there were no casualties. A building within the staff quarters was affected, but the occupants had already moved to safety,” he said.

The police spokesman added that the Commissioner of Police in the state had ordered the deployment of additional tactical teams to maintain public order and reassure residents of their safety.

According to him, a comprehensive investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the explosion, assuring that further updates would be made available as developments unfold.

The police also urged residents to remain calm and to avoid the immediate surroundings of the hospital to enable security operatives to carry out their duties without hindrance.
