Enugu Police Bust Interstate Vehicle Theft Syndicate, Recover Stolen Mack Trucks, Highlander
The Enugu State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough in its fight against crime with the disruption of an interstate vehicle theft syndicate and the recovery of two Mack trucks and a Toyota Highlander Jeep stolen from different parts of the country.
The feat, achieved through intelligence-led policing, resulted in the arrest of suspects and the recovery of vehicles reportedly stolen in Aba, Abia State, and Isolo, Lagos State.
Briefing newsmen on the development, the Police said that on December 22, 2025, at about 8:00 a.m., operatives attached to Emene Police Division, acting on credible information received by the Command’s Control Room, swiftly mobilised to a location in Emene, Enugu State, where they recovered two stolen Mack trucks.
The recovered vehicles include a yellow Mack truck conveying a 40-foot container and another white Mack truck without a registration number. Police investigations revealed that the trucks were stolen from Aba, Abia State, and moved to Enugu where they were allegedly to be sold to a buyer before the intervention of the Police.
Two male suspects were arrested in connection with the crime. They were identified as Okenwa Chinedu, 33, who allegedly conveyed the stolen trucks from Aba to Enugu, and Adaka Emmanuel, 28, who was said to be in the process of purchasing one of the trucks.
Preliminary investigations further revealed that Okenwa is a Mack truck mechanic resident in Aba, Abia State, while Adaka is a scrap dealer. The rightful owners of the recovered trucks have since identified their vehicles, while further investigations are ongoing to apprehend other members of the suspected syndicate.
In a related development, the Command also recorded another success on December 17, 2025, at about 6:40 p.m., when operatives attached to Uwani Police Division arrested a male suspect, Emmanuel Chukwu, while attempting to sell a stolen Toyota Highlander Jeep at a car stand in Uwani, Enugu.
The recovered vehicle, an ox-blood coloured Toyota Highlander Jeep with registration number AGL 929 FX, was reportedly stolen from Isolo area of Lagos State. The suspect and the recovered vehicle were subsequently handed over to the Police Division in Lagos State where the case was originally reported, for further investigation and prosecution.
Commending the operatives for their professionalism, vigilance and swift response, the Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of lives and property across the state.
He also urged residents to continue to support the Police by providing timely and credible information, and by promptly reporting suspicious persons and criminal activities to the nearest police station.
The Police assured that all suspects would be diligently investigated and prosecuted in accordance with the law, as efforts continue to rid the state of criminal elements.
