Four ‘One-Chance’ Robbery Suspects Arrested, Arraigned in Enugu
Police intensify manhunt for fleeing syndicate members
Operatives of the Enugu State Police Command have arrested four suspected members of a notorious “one-chance” robbery syndicate allegedly terrorising residents of Abakpa-Nike and other parts of the Enugu metropolis.
The suspects were apprehended by operatives attached to the Command’s Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Squad on January 10, 2026, at about 9:00 a.m., while allegedly prowling for unsuspecting victims with a tricycle within the Abakpa-Nike axis.
Police sources identified the suspects as Ndubuisi Achioko (62), Nnaji Okeh (55), Nwobodo Dennis (57), and a female member, Chinedu Idam (36), all residents of Abakpa-Nike, Enugu. The tricycle reportedly used in carrying out their criminal operations was recovered at the point of arrest.
According to the Police, preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects are members of a larger criminal network involved in “one-chance” robbery operations within the area. During interrogation, the suspects allegedly confessed to their involvement in the syndicate and provided useful information to aid ongoing investigations.
The Enugu State Police Command in the statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, disclosed that the four suspects have since been arraigned before a competent court of law and remanded in Correctional Custody, while intensive efforts are ongoing to identify, track, and arrest other members of the syndicate who are currently on the run.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, reiterated the Command’s unwavering commitment to the fight against “one-chance” robbery and other forms of criminality across the State.
CP Giwa urged residents to remain law-abiding, vigilant, and security-conscious, especially when using public transportation, and to promptly report suspicious movements or criminal activities to the nearest police station or through established police emergency channels.
The Police assured the public that the Command would not relent in its efforts to rid Enugu State of criminal elements and ensure the safety of lives and property.
