Enugu Police Arrest Four in Anti-Drug Raids, Recover ₦1.8m, Illicit Substances
The Enugu State Police Command has intensified its crackdown on drug peddling and related criminal activities, arresting four suspects and recovering illicit substances, cash and other incriminating exhibits in a series of intelligence-led operations across the state capital.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, the command said the arrests were made by operatives of its Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team and the Anti-Cultism Squad during coordinated raids carried out between January 25 and 26, 2026.
According to the statement, SWAT operatives, acting on credible intelligence, on January 26 at about 11:30 a.m. raided a criminal hideout behind New Market, Enugu, where a 46-year-old woman, Omeru Nkechi, was arrested for alleged drug peddling.
Items recovered from the suspect include a large bag of substance suspected to be cannabis, a big roll of wire, six rolls of 1.5mm electric wires, assorted off-cut wires, a water-pumping machine, a Point-of-Sale (POS) machine, two Automated Teller Machine (ATM) cards, and a cash sum of ₦1.8 million.
In a related operation, operatives of the Anti-Cultism Squad, while on crime-prevention patrol and acting on actionable intelligence, stormed identified black spots in Obeagu, Asata and the Holy Ghost Railway Area on January 25 at about 9:00 a.m.
Three male suspects — Anielozie Emmanuel (21), Ekoh Miracle (20) and Nwachukwu Michael (27) — were arrested during the operation. Police described Michael as a suspected member of the Vikings Confraternity.
Recovered from the suspects were 32 small containers containing substances suspected to be cannabis, one sachet of a similar substance, and 12 wrapped pills suspected to be hard drugs.
The police said discreet investigations were ongoing to apprehend other members of the drug-peddling networks and dismantle their operations.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, has reassured residents of the command’s resolve to sustain the fight against drug abuse, cultism and other forms of criminality.
He urged members of the public to remain law-abiding and vigilant, while continuing to provide credible and actionable information to support police efforts in maintaining peace and security across the state.
