Uzo-Uwani LG Chairman Condemns Attack on Nimbo Farms, Orders Probe
The Chairman of Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu State, Barr Chijioke Ezugwu, has expressed deep sadness over the recent attack and destruction of farmlands in Nimbo community, allegedly carried out by suspected Fulani herders.
In a statement signed by his Chief Media Aide, Kingsley Onyeji, Ezugwu described the incident as a “senseless and reprehensible act of violence” and extended his condolences to the family of the young girl whose farm produce was destroyed, as well as to the entire people of Nimbo community.
The council chairman disclosed that he has directed relevant security agencies to immediately investigate the incident and ensure that those responsible are arrested and brought to justice.
According to him, the local government’s commitment to the protection of lives and property remains unwavering. He stressed that the council would continue to work with security agencies and other stakeholders to promote peace and peaceful coexistence among residents, irrespective of tribe or community.
“Our commitment to the protection of lives and property of all citizens, regardless of their tribe or community, is unshakable. We remain unrelenting in our collaboration with all stakeholders and security agencies towards achieving peaceful coexistence in our local government,” he said.
Ezugwu appealed to residents of the area to remain calm and law-abiding, while urging them to cooperate with security agencies by providing useful information that could lead to the arrest of the perpetrators.
A young lady from the area, Ugwu Christiana Chioma recently cried out for help over alleged destruction of her farms by suspected Fulani herdsmen, sparking renewed security alertness and reactions from people of the area and beyond.
