Police Nab 42-Year-Old Suspect, Recover ‘Canadian Loud’, Other Illicit Drugs in Enugu
The Enugu State Police Command has intensified its clampdown on illicit drug peddling with the arrest of a 42-year-old suspect, Musa Zuberu, and the recovery of a large quantity of substances suspected to be marijuana, including synthetic variants popularly known as “Canadian Loud” and “Colorado” (Colos).
The arrest, according to the Command, was carried out on February 11, 2026, at about 1:40 p.m. by operatives attached to the Crack Tactical Squad during a routine patrol along Camp 1, Iva Valley, Enugu.
A statement issued yesterday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, disclosed that the suspect was apprehended following a search which led to the discovery of a significant quantity of weed suspected to be marijuana, alongside other illicit drug substances.
“The operatives recovered a large quantity of weed suspected to be marijuana, including the synthetic ‘Canadian Loud’ and ‘Colorado’ variants, as well as other quantities of suspected illicit drugs,” the statement read.
The Command further revealed that investigations are ongoing to apprehend other members of the suspected drug network and dismantle illicit drug peddling rings operating within the state.
The latest arrest comes on the heels of recent operations by the Command which led to the apprehension of five male suspects, including a dispatch rider, in separate raids. In those operations, the police recovered large consignments of illicit drugs and controlled substances such as tramadol, methamphetamine—locally referred to as “Mkpuru-mmiri”—and different variants of weed suspected to be marijuana.
Reiterating the Command’s resolve, the Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, reaffirmed the police’s unwavering commitment to sustaining the fight against illicit drug trafficking and abuse in Enugu State.
He warned individuals involved in drug-related activities to desist immediately or be prepared to face the full weight of the law, stressing that the Command would not relent in its efforts to rid the state of crimes associated with substance abuse.
The police assured residents of continued proactive patrols and intelligence-driven operations aimed at ensuring public safety and curbing criminal activities linked to drug trafficking across the state.
