Enugu Police Nab 3 Suspects Recover Guns, Drugs in Anti-Cultism Raid
The Enugu State Police Command has recorded fresh breakthroughs in its sustained crackdown on cultism, armed violence and illicit drug activities across the state, arresting three male suspects in separate operations and recovering firearms, ammunition and hard drugs.
The operations, carried out by operatives of the Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad, were executed in Enugu South Local Government Area and the Agbani axis following actionable intelligence.
In the first operation conducted on January 19, 2026, police operatives acting on credible intelligence swooped on the Awkunanaw area of Enugu South LGA, where two suspects — Mba Emmanuel, alias “Indomie,” aged 31, and Onukwube Nnam, alias “Nwa Amodu,” aged 35 — were apprehended.
According to the Command’s spokesman, SP Daniel Ndukwe, the suspects confessed during interrogation to being members of the dreaded Supreme Vikings Confraternity.
Mba Emmanuel was further identified as the head and executioner of the unlawful group in Enugu South LGA as of December 2025.
Items recovered from the suspects include one pump-action gun, a locally fabricated Beretta-type pistol, thirty-one live cartridges, a large wrap of substance suspected to be cannabis sativa, one HP laptop and a motorcycle.
Police sources disclosed that the exhibits are undergoing forensic examination, while the suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
In a related development, police operatives on January 31, 2026, raided criminal hideouts in the Agbani axis, leading to the arrest of eight suspects.
Following preliminary screening, one of the suspects, Ezeani Monday, aged 32, was found in possession of a dried substance suspected to be cannabis sativa and thirty-nine pellets of suspected crystal methamphetamine, locally known as “Mkpuru-mmiri.”
The remaining seven suspects were released after initial investigations did not establish their involvement in criminal activities.
Authorities confirmed that the recovered substances have been secured as exhibits, while the suspect found culpable remains in custody pending further investigation and prosecution.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Mamman Bitrus Giwa, reiterated the Command’s unwavering resolve to rid Enugu State of criminal elements threatening public peace and security.
He assured residents that proactive policing strategies, intelligence-led operations and community collaboration would continue to guide the Command’s activities.
The Commissioner, however, issued a stern warning to individuals involved in armed robbery, cultism, illicit drug trafficking and other violent crimes to desist or be prepared to face the full weight of the law.
The Command urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue to provide credible information that would aid security agencies in sustaining the fight against crime in the state.
