Enugu Chieftaincy Commissioner Pledges Ethical Leadership, Vows Zero Tolerance for Misconduct

The Commissioner for Chieftaincy Affairs in Enugu State, Dr Charles Egumgbe, has reaffirmed his commitment to ethical leadership and efficient service delivery, declaring that unethical conduct will not be condoned under his watch.
Dr Egumgbe made the pledge during a strategic meeting with management and staff of the Ministry of Chieftaincy Affairs held at the New Secretariat Complex in Enugu.
Addressing the gathering, the commissioner stressed the need for integrity, transparency and diligence in handling the sensitive responsibilities of the ministry, particularly as they relate to traditional institutions and communal harmony.
He warned that acts capable of undermining public trust or destabilising communities would attract appropriate sanctions, adding that the ministry must remain a model of professionalism in line with the administration’s development agenda.
“I am committed to upholding the highest standards of ethical conduct in this ministry. We must work together to ensure that our actions promote peace, stability and progress across the state,” he said.
Egumgbe expressed appreciation to the Permanent Secretary, directors and the entire workforce for their cooperation and support since his assumption of office. He urged staff to remain steadfast and committed to their duties, noting that sustained peace in various communities depends largely on the ministry’s objectivity and fairness in handling chieftaincy matters.
Earlier in her remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Ada Nwoye, described the commissioner as an “encyclopedia” whose passion for excellence and wealth of experience have already begun to reposition the ministry for optimal performance.
According to her, the Ministry of Chieftaincy Affairs occupies a strategic position in maintaining peace, progress and stability in Enugu State, given the delicate and often complex nature of traditional leadership issues.
She noted that resolving disputes over traditional stools in several communities requires a level-headed administrator with deep understanding of customary laws and conflict resolution mechanisms.
Dr Nwoye further stated that the commissioner’s experience would prove invaluable in addressing lingering chieftaincy disputes and fostering reconciliation where necessary.
She emphasised that peace remains the bedrock of development, aligning the ministry’s mandate with the purpose-driven leadership of Governor Peter Mbah, whose administration, she said, is focused on strengthening harmony and accelerating socio-economic growth across the state.
In separate remarks, the Director of Administration, Mr Robinson Ezea; the Deputy Director, Planning, Research and Statistics, Mr Eddy Onyishi; Mrs. Monica Eze; and other staff members commended Dr Egumgbe’s diligence, hard work and dedication.
They expressed confidence in his leadership style, describing him as accessible, disciplined and result-oriented. The staff assured the commissioner of their continued cooperation to achieve the ministry’s objectives.
Observers note that the renewed emphasis on ethical standards and institutional discipline signals a determined effort by the ministry to consolidate peace and stability in communities where traditional institutions play pivotal roles in governance and grassroots development.
