APC Hails Peaceful LG Congresses in Enugu, as Mbah Urges Unity and Consensus

The All Progressives Congress (APC) national panel and Governor Peter Mbah have commended the Enugu State chapter of the party for conducting what they described as peaceful, transparent and democratic local government congresses across the state.

Chairman of the APC National Panel for Ward and Local Government Congresses in Enugu State, Hon. Solomon Funkekeme, gave the commendation on Saturday after monitoring the election of new local government executives and three-man national delegates at Amagunze in Nkanu East Local Government Area.

Funkekeme lauded the unity and orderly conduct displayed by party members, describing the Enugu chapter as a model for other states.

“First, I must commend the governor for the leadership he has shown in the party. The first step to progress is unity, and that is what we have witnessed here today,” he said. “The conduct of this congress is marvellous. The atmosphere is cordial and there was no dissenting voice. I urge other local governments to emulate Nkanu East in ensuring peaceful congresses that will support the continued delivery of democratic dividends.”

At the congress, Hon. Abel Nwigwe emerged as Chairman of the party in Nkanu East.

Addressing party faithful, Mbah expressed gratitude to leaders and members for demonstrating what he termed “consensus in action,” noting that the exercise reflected the growing cohesion within the party in the state.

“What we have witnessed here is a model worthy of emulation. This congress has shown that we are one united family,” he said.

The governor added that reports from the remaining 16 local government areas indicated similarly peaceful exercises.

“We have not gathered here to struggle for power. We identified those who will serve as our local government executives and those who will represent us as national delegates, and you affirmed them. That is consensus in action,” he stated, congratulating the newly elected executives and delegates.

Earlier, the governor had visited Agbani for the Nkanu West Local Government congress, where he similarly praised party leaders and delegates for prioritising unity and harmony.

At Nkanu West, Mbah was welcomed by the Council Chairman, Hon. John Ogbodo; the member representing Nkanu East/Nkanu West Federal Constituency, Hon. Nnolim Nnaji; the Secretary of the Police Service Commission, Chief Onyemuche Nnamani; and other party chieftains.
