FCT Polls: PDP’s Kasim wins Gwagwalada chairmanship poll

The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mohammed Kasim, has been declared winner of the 2026 chairmanship election in Gwagwalada Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Kasim was returned elected by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) after the collation of results from the 10 wards in the council.

Announcing the results on Sunday in Gwagwalada, the Returning Officer for the poll, Prof. Philip Akpeni, said Kasim secured a total of 22,165 votes to emerge victorious in the election held on February 21, 2026.

“I am the Returning Officer for the 2026 FCT Area Council Chairmanship Election for Gwagwalada held on February 21, 2026. Mohammed Kasim of the PDP, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner and returned elected,” Akpeni stated.

The candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Yahaya Usman, garnered 17,788 votes to place second, while Biko Umar of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) polled 1,687 votes to finish third.

The election was conducted across the council’s 10 wards: Paiko, Dobi, Gwako, Ibwa, Staff Quarters, Zuba, Ikwa, Kutunku, Gwagwalada Centre and Tunga Maje.
