AIG Tunji Disu Emerges Inspector-General of Police

Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, has been appointed as the new Inspector-General of Police (IGP), bringing to the office a wealth of operational and intelligence experience garnered from key commands across the Nigeria Police Force.

Disu first came into national prominence during his tenure as Commander of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) in Lagos State, where he served from 2015 to 2021. While at the helm of the RRS, he spearheaded several high-profile operations targeted at curbing violent crimes, kidnapping and armed robbery, significantly strengthening security operations in the state.

In August 2021, he was appointed Head of the Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT), one of the Force’s elite tactical units charged with combating organised crime and executing intelligence-driven operations nationwide. His leadership at the IRT further underscored his expertise in intelligence coordination and strategic law enforcement.

Disu subsequently served as Commissioner of Police in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and later in Rivers State, overseeing policing activities in two of the nation’s most strategic and security-sensitive jurisdictions.

In February 2026, he was deployed as Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), Lagos, a role that broadened his experience in criminal investigations, intelligence management and institutional administration.

With his appointment as Inspector-General of Police, stakeholders anticipate a renewed emphasis on intelligence-led policing, proactive crime prevention and sustained reforms within the Nigeria Police Force.
