Enugu Chieftaincy: Jubilation in Ezeagu as Dr Chimereze Linus Emerges Okpogho Igwe-Elect

There was jubilation in Okpogho Autonomous Community in Ezeagu Local Government Area of Enugu State following the peaceful election of Dr Chimereze Linus as the Igwe-elect.
The exercise, which was conducted without rancour or intimidation, drew commendation from stakeholders and government officials who monitored the process.
Representing Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, the Commissioner for Chieftaincy Affairs, Dr Charles Egumgbe, lauded the town union executive and the electoral committee for what he described as their commitment and dexterity in conducting a credible poll.
“A community without a royal father is like a family without a head. That is why we are here today to fill that obligation,” he stated.
Egumgbe noted that the peaceful conduct of the election justified the confidence reposed in the organisers, adding that the overwhelming support from the people was a testament to the integrity, vision and compassion of the Igwe-elect.
He assured that the state government would facilitate the necessary recognition process.
In his acceptance remarks, the Igwe-elect, Dr Chimereze Linus, expressed appreciation to Governor Mbah for his support, pledging to enthrone peace, unity and progress in the community.
According to the community’s constitution, four villages – Amankpaka, Imeama, Obuagu and Umuezeaji, participated in the election.
At the end of the exercise, Chief Aloysius Ibekwe polled 97 votes, while Dr Linus secured 200 votes to emerge winner.
Chairman of the electoral committee, Mr Ikechukwu Zeigbo, expressed satisfaction with the orderly conduct of the poll. He described the Commissioner for Chieftaincy Affairs as a rare administrator and commended the governor for his appointment.
Among dignitaries present at the event were the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Dr (Mrs) Ada Nwonye; Head of Department, Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr. Alex Ngene; and representatives of the Nigeria Police Force, among others.
The event climaxed with a colourful display of traditional dances as members of the community celebrated the emergence of their new royal father.
