A political support group, Tomorrow Is Here Movement, has inaugurated its ward coordinators across Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State, charging them to mobilise grassroots support for the second-term re-election of Peter Ndubuisi Mbah in 2027.
The inauguration ceremony, held at Ugwuoye Primary School field, Nsukka, attracted a large turnout of political leaders, party faithful, community stakeholders and supporters from across the council area.
The event, described by observers as a significant political development ahead of the 2027 governorship election, witnessed prominent stakeholders publicly declaring their support for the governor’s second-term bid.
Speaking at the occasion, President of the movement, Hon. Tony Okwudili Okonkwo, said the ceremony was convened to formally empower ward coordinators to begin intensive grassroots mobilisation.
Okonkwo highlighted what he described as the developmental strides recorded under Governor Mbah’s administration, portraying him as a “monumental achiever” whose projects had impacted various sectors of the state.
In his welcome address, the Nsukka LGA Coordinator of the movement, Hon. Ozo Ugwuja Chika, commended the governor for executing numerous projects within a short period in office, noting that the administration’s achievements had made mobilisation for 2027 easier.
Also speaking, a former member of the Enugu State House of Assembly, Hon. Emma Ugwuerua, urged members of the movement to champion the governor’s re-election campaign, stressing that unity and strategic grassroots engagement were critical to consolidating the gains recorded so far.
The APC Zonal Woman Leader, Hon. Ngozi Ezeja, recounted a recent engagement with women in Nsukka, where she addressed concerns about the governor’s political direction. She maintained that the tangible projects executed by the administration made it easier to market him to the electorate ahead of 2027.
Two serving members of the Enugu State House of Assembly representing Nsukka LGA, Hon. Pius Ezugwu and Hon. Malachy Onyechi, used the forum to reaffirm their loyalty to the governor.
Ezugwu said that since his election in 2023, he had regarded Governor Mbah as a political mentor and pledged to work towards ensuring overwhelming support in 2027.
In his remarks, the Executive Chairman of Nsukka Local Government Council, Hon. Engr. Jude Asogwa, described the governor as a “pillar of good governance and a master strategist,” declaring that there would be “no vacancy in the Lion Building” in 2027.
He added that political activities in Nsukka LGA would henceforth be focused on securing the governor’s return.
The Deputy Speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly, in his address, outlined key achievements of the administration, particularly in the education sector. He noted that the Smart School programme had provided free education, uniforms and one meal daily for pupils, positioning children in the state for global competitiveness.
According to him, parents and ward leaders have a responsibility to ensure the success of the programme, describing it as a reflection of the administration’s commitment to inclusive development and equal opportunity.
While inaugurating the ward coordinators and the students’ wing of the movement, Okonkwo urged stakeholders to intensify grassroots mobilisation and enlighten residents on the achievements of the administration and the need for continuity in 2027.
The event was attended by traditional rulers, market women, former council chairmen, including Hon. Tony Ugwu (Odera) and Hon. Walter Ozioko as well as other political actors.
