Police Vow to Strengthen Community Policing, Professionalism in Enugu
Mamman Bitrus Giwa, Commissioner of Police, Enugu State, on Friday convened the Command’s strategic monthly security conference with senior officers to review policing activities and align the Command with the policy direction of the new leadership of the Nigeria Police Force.
The meeting, which held at the Senior Police Officers’ Mess along Agbani Road in Enugu, brought together top officers of the Command to assess security operations over the past month and chart a renewed course for effective policing in the state.
Addressing the officers, CP Giwa said the conference was also aimed at aligning the Enugu State Command with the strategic directives of the new Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu.
According to him, the directives of the IGP focus on strengthening community and people-centred policing, promoting respect for the rights and dignity of citizens, and ensuring discipline and professionalism among officers and men of the Force.
The Commissioner further emphasised that the IGP’s policy thrust includes building stronger public trust in the police, improving the welfare of officers, rewarding excellence and sanctioning erring personnel.
He stressed that under the current leadership of the Force, accountability and professionalism would be strictly enforced.
“There will be no sacred cows under this leadership,” Giwa stated, while urging officers to ensure they live up to the expectations of the public.
The police boss also noted that with the emergence of a new leadership in the Nigeria Police Force, the standards for effective and professional policing must be significantly raised.
He therefore charged supervisory officers to effectively cascade the directives of the Inspector-General of Police to their subordinates and ensure improved performance across all formations.
Giwa warned officers against any form of unethical conduct, stressing that discipline and professionalism must remain the hallmark of policing in the state.
The conference was attended by Deputy Commissioners of Police, Assistant Commissioners of Police, Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, heads of tactical units and sections, as well as other senior officers of the Enugu State Command.
The development is part of ongoing efforts by the Nigeria Police Force to reposition its operations and strengthen security architecture through strategic leadership and improved operational efficiency.
