The All Progressives Congress (APC) in the South-East has concluded its zonal congress with the emergence of an eight-member executive through a consensus arrangement.

The congress, held Wednesday at the newly renovated Hotel Presidential in Enugu, recorded a large turnout of party leaders, delegates and supporters from the five states in the zone.

Proceedings began with a motion moved by Governor Francis Nwifuru for the dissolution of the outgoing zonal executive. The motion was seconded by Senator Patrick Ndubueze and unanimously adopted.

Subsequently, Governor Hope Uzodimma disclosed that party stakeholders had earlier met at the Government House, Enugu, where they agreed to adopt the consensus option for the election, in line with the party’s constitution.

The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, then moved a composite motion seeking ratification of previous ward, local government and state congresses, adoption of the consensus method, and approval of the proposed list of zonal officers. The motion, seconded by the Speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly, Uchenna Ugwu, was unanimously endorsed by delegates.

At the end of the exercise, Dr. Ijeomah Arodiogbu was returned as Zonal Vice Chairman, while Chief Innocent Azuoba emerged as Zonal Secretary.

Other members of the executive include Barr. Ernest Mayor Ogbonna (Zonal Legal Adviser), Hon. Henry Onwuahaluonye (Publicity Secretary), Barr. In his remarks, Governor Peter Mbah said the peaceful conduct of the congresses at all levels demonstrated the strength and unity of the APC in the South-East.

He noted that the successful exercise had further reinforced the party’s determination to secure the re-election of President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

According to him, the impressive turnout at the congress signified growing acceptance of the APC in the region, adding that contrary to expectations of internal crisis, the party had emerged stronger and more cohesive.

Mbah commended the outgoing zonal executive and members of the National Working Committee for their contributions to the growth of the party in the zone, while charging the newly elected officials to consolidate on the gains achieved.
