We Won’t Underestimate Opposition Strength – Nwoye
…Says APC Ramping Up Strategy for Next Elections
The Deputy National Chairman (South) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Ben Nwoye, on Monday said the “good work” of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has continued to attract a wave of defections into the ruling party ahead of future elections.
Speaking during an appearance on Channels Television’s morning programme, Nwoye noted that the growing confidence in the administration’s policies has strengthened the APC’s grassroots appeal across the country.
According to him, “what we are witnessing today is not accidental. Nigerians are responding to leadership they can see and reforms they can feel. The good work of President Bola Tinubu is naturally drawing people into our party in large numbers.”
He, however, acknowledged that opposition parties remain formidable, stressing that their strength has compelled the APC to remain vigilant and better prepared.
“We do not underestimate the opposition. Their strength is real, and that awareness is exactly what is pushing us to organise more effectively. It is this preparedness that will position APC strongly for the next round of elections,” he said.
On the power sector, the APC chieftain emphasised the need for deeper involvement of sub-national governments, describing state participation as a “game changer” in addressing Nigeria’s electricity challenges.
Nwoye commended the efforts of Abia State and Enugu State for taking proactive steps to boost power generation within their jurisdictions.
“The decentralisation of power is critical. States must not sit back and wait for the federal government alone. What Abia is doing is commendable, and Enugu has also keyed into that progressive vision,” he stated.
He further disclosed that the Enugu State Government has entered into a strategic partnership with South African investors to harness its coal resources for electricity generation.
“Enugu State has taken a bold step by signing a Memorandum of Understanding with South Africa to exploit its vast coal deposits. This initiative is expected to translate into sustainable power generation within the next few years,” Nwoye revealed.
Reflecting on his political journey, the APC Deputy National Chairman traced his rise through the ranks of the party, particularly his tenure as chairman in Enugu State.
“My emergence today is a product of years of service and commitment. From leading the party in Enugu State to handling other responsibilities, every role has prepared me for this national assignment,” he said.
He added that his experience at various levels of party administration has equipped him with the capacity to contribute meaningfully to the APC’s strategic direction.
“I have been tested in leadership and organisation. Those experiences have shaped my understanding of party dynamics and governance, and I am ready to deploy them in strengthening our structures nationwide,” he noted.
Nwoye reiterated the party’s commitment to consolidating on current reforms while expanding its support base across regions.
“The APC remains focused on delivering results to Nigerians. As more people come to appreciate the direction of governance under President Tinubu, our party will continue to grow stronger and more inclusive,” he said.
He concluded with a note of optimism, expressing confidence that ongoing reforms, particularly in critical sectors like power, would yield tangible benefits for citizens and reinforce public trust in the ruling party.
