Enugu Traditional Ruler Calls For Mass Participation In CVR

In a pivotal move aimed at enhancing democratic participation, Igwe Polycarp Oyigbo, the traditional ruler of Egede community in Udi local government area, Enugu state, has urged eligible citizens of the area to engage actively in the ongoing Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise. This call comes as the nation gears up for the crucial upcoming elections, stressing the importance of every citizen’s voice in shaping governance.
During a recent event, Igwe Oyigbo highlighted the significance of the voter registration process in empowering constituents to make informed choices in electing their leaders. He emphasised that voter registration is the foundational step towards active participation in the democratic process, urging all eligible residents, especially the youth and first-time voters, to take this opportunity seriously.
“We must ensure that every qualified citizen in Egede community is registered to vote. Our voice matters, and every vote counts,” the traditional ruler stated. He further elaborated that a well-participated voter registration would empower the community to elect leaders who understand their needs and aspirations.
Igwe Oyigbo’s call comes amidst ongoing efforts by INEC to make the voter registration process accessible to all Nigerians. The CVR is designed to allow citizens who have turned 18, as well as those who have changed their personal information or wish to transfer their voter registration to another area, to register seamlessly.
The traditional ruler also encouraged community leaders, youth groups, and women’s associations to mobilise their members to participate in this civic duty. He underscored the importance of education and awareness, suggesting community outreach programmes that would simplify the registration process and aid individuals in obtaining necessary documentation.
“The future of our community and our nation lies in our hands. Let us come together to protect our democratic rights and ensure that Egede is well represented in the coming elections,” he added, calling for unity and commitment among community members.
Igwe Oyigbo expressed satisfaction with the level of development being witnessed in the state and called for its sustenance.
Meanwhile, Local stakeholders, including the Youth Association of Egede and various women’s groups, have pledged their support in facilitating the registration efforts.
