Enugu NULGE Rallies Behind Gov. Mbah, Declares Support for 2027 Re-Election
Local government workers in Enugu State have formally pledged unwavering support for Governor Peter Mbah and endorsed his bid for a second term in 2027, citing what they describe as an era of unprecedented welfare reforms for grassroots workers.
The endorsement came on Thursday during the unveiling of the NULGE Network for Peter Ndubuisi Mbah (NN4PNM) at the Enugu State Secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE).
Speaking at the event, the NULGE State President, Comrade Udoagha Ani, traced the union’s tradition of aligning with administrations that demonstrate clear commitment to worker welfare. He noted that while past administrations — including those of Chimaroke Nnamani, Sullivan Chime and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi extended varying degrees of support to local government workers, the Mbah administration has delivered “the most far-reaching benefits”.
According to Ani, “Governor Mbah has set a new benchmark in worker-friendly governance. From prompt and regular salaries to the swift approval of the ₦80,000 minimum wage and full integration of local government workers into the state’s scheme of service, his actions speak louder than promises”.
He added that the union would mobilise its grassroots strength to ensure the governor is rewarded for what he described as “genuine and people-centred leadership”.
The immediate past NULGE president, Comrade Kenneth Ugwueze, also praised the administration, describing Mbah as a leader who has “matched every word with action”.
“For more than two decades, we fought for welfare reforms that never saw daylight,” Ugwueze said. “But this administration has implemented them with a level of sincerity and urgency we have never witnessed. Governor Mbah has proven to be a man who delivers beyond expectations”.
Ugwueze commended the current union leadership for sustaining the new support platform, insisting that the workers’ backing is grounded in “verifiable performance, not political sentiments”.
Similarly, the Secretary of the State Local Government Service Commission, Mr Osondu Nnaji, highlighted what he called the governor’s historic inclusion of local government career staff in the state’s administrative hierarchy.
“For the first time, a statutory staff of the local government system was appointed as secretary of the commission,” Nnaji stated. “This is not just symbolic — it is a recognition that has long been overdue. With gestures like this, supporting his re-election becomes a natural choice”.
On behalf of the union’s local government branches, the NULGE Chairman of Udi LGA, Comrade Emeka Ngwu, pledged stronger mobilisation ahead of the 2027 polls.
“We will strengthen our structures at the grassroots to sustain the gains workers have enjoyed under this administration,” Ngwu affirmed. “Our members know where their welfare has been truly prioritised”.
Also aligning with the trend, NULGE Vice-president (South East), Comrade Lambert Onuigbo acknowledged that the support platform had yielded a lot of Favour for the local government system in the state and commended the state leadership for sustaining it.
The launch of the NN4PNM platform marks one of the most coordinated expressions of worker support for a sitting governor in recent years, signalling growing momentum ahead of the 2027 electoral cycle.
