Enugu Launches Tech Training Programme to Drive Digital Skills, Innovation

The Enugu State Government has commenced the induction of its Tech Training Programme, a capacity-building initiative designed to strengthen the state’s technology workforce, particularly within the civil service.
The programme, which was flagged off on Tuesday, by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, is being implemented in collaboration with PurpleGate Tech. The induction ceremony took place at the General Studies (GNS) Building of the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT), Enugu.
The training is one of the initiatives of the Commissioner for Science and Technology, aimed at advancing the state government’s vision of building a “tech society” under the administration of Governor Peter Mbah. A large number of civil servants and other residents of the state were inducted as participants.
Speaking at the event, Prof. Onyia said the programme was targeted at producing a sufficiently skilled workforce in the technology sector to drive the government’s development agenda.
“What we are trying to do here is to ensure that our workforce, particularly within the civil service, has the operational capacity required for the future
“Our commitment is to building a strong workforce that is enabled to lead the trajectory of development we want to see across the working sector”, he said.
The SSG commended the Commissioner for Science and Technology, Dr Lawrence Ezeh for what he described as value-oriented initiatives in the tech space, and praised PurpleGate Tech for partnering the state government to deliver practical skills to participants.
“I am happy with PurpleGate Tech. Thank you for the partnership with Enugu State.
“I looked at your profile and I am impressed with what young people are doing in tech. You are not just doing this for educational purposes, but to add value across the board”, Onyia added.
In his remarks, the Commissioner for Science and Technology, Dr Lawrence Ezeh, expressed appreciation for the professionalism and organisational capacity of PurpleGate Tech in bringing the training programme to fruition. He also thanked participants for their commitment, while reaffirming the state government’s resolve to transform Enugu into a leading tech hub through various ICT programmes across the state.
The event featured interactive sessions, with inductees offering comments, asking questions and expressing appreciation for the initiative.
Addressing concerns raised, particularly on the timing of the training and the distance of the venue from the state secretariat, the founder of PurpleGate Tech Mr Dominion Uba provided clarifications and assurances.
