Police Commence Nationwide Training of Personnel as Mechanics, Technicians

In a bid to entrench a sustainable maintenance culture and boost operational efficiency, the Nigeria Police Force has commenced a nationwide training programme for its personnel as mechanics and technicians, to enable them take up maintenance responsibilities of police assets across commands and formations in the country.

In Enugu, no fewer than 100 police personnel drawn from commands within the zone were on Tuesday inaugurated for the specialised training at the Anambra Motor Manufacturing Company (ANAMMCO), Emene.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, the Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTF), Alhaji Mohammed Sheidu, said the initiative was designed to address long-standing challenges associated with the maintenance of police operational assets, particularly vehicles and equipment critical to effective policing.

According to him, mobility remains central to police operations, stressing that without a functional maintenance framework, investments in patrol vehicles and other assets would not yield the desired results.

“This programme is a deliberate and strategic intervention to institute a strong maintenance culture within the Nigeria Police Force. Mobility is key to our operations, and it is important that we have trained hands on the ground who can sustain and maintain our assets efficiently,” Sheidu said.

He explained that the training would equip participants with modern mechanical and technical skills required to service and maintain police vehicles and related equipment, adding that contemporary tools would be provided to the trained personnel at their respective commands and formations upon completion of the programme.

“We are not just training personnel; we are also ensuring that modern diagnostic tools and equipment are made available to them at their duty posts.
