A New Nigeria Is Possible Under Peter Obi, Says US-Based Political Aspirant

By Uche Eze, Nsukka

A United States-based Nigerian politician and House of Representatives aspirant, Dr. Hillary Onyishi, popularly known as Ikemba, has expressed confidence that Nigeria can witness a new era of development and good governance if Mr. Gregory Peter Obi emerges victorious in the 2027 presidential election.

Onyishi, who is seeking to represent Nsukka/Igbo-Eze South Federal Constituency on the platform of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), made the declaration during the party’s primary election held recently at St. Theresa’s College, Nsukka.

According to him, the growing support and enthusiasm demonstrated by party members and supporters at the primary election are clear indications that Nigerians are yearning for positive change and are prepared to embrace a new political direction.

He described the NDC as a movement committed to rescuing the country from poor leadership and economic hardship, stressing that his decision to return from the United States to participate actively in Nigerian politics was inspired by his desire to work alongside the party’s presidential hopeful, Mr. Gregory Peter Obi, in addressing the nation’s leadership challenges.

“I am an aspirant for the Nsukka/Igbo-Eze South Federal Constituency, and we are here today for the conduct of the Nigeria Democratic Congress primary election. As you can see, the massive turnout and enthusiasm of the people demonstrate their commitment to change. They want a new beginning and a renewed hope for Nigeria,” he said.

Onyishi maintained that the NDC has come to stay and possesses the vision required to reposition the country for sustainable growth and prosperity.

“Our principal, Mr. Gregory Peter Obi, represents the hope of millions of Nigerians. His emergence as President in 2027 will usher in a new Nigeria—one that is responsive to the needs of its citizens, reduces hardship, and unlocks the nation’s enormous economic potential for the benefit of the masses,” he stated.

The aspirant described the turnout at the primary election as remarkable and unprecedented, expressing optimism that he would secure the party’s ticket and subsequently emerge victorious in the general election.

“I am here with hope and confidence that the outcome of this exercise will be favourable. My people have demonstrated overwhelming support and have shown their determination to embrace a new political order. For years, our constituency has endured unfulfilled promises and inadequate representation. Today, I see in the faces of our people a renewed determination to change that narrative.

“This movement has only just begun. The ‘Ikemba Bu Ike Anyi’ movement is committed to restoring purposeful leadership and ensuring that governance truly serves the people. We want to build a Nigeria that works for everyone,” he emphasized.
While commending the peaceful and orderly conduct of the primary election, Onyishi assured constituents that if elected, he would provide quality representation focused on addressing the needs and aspirations of the people.

“For me to leave my life and engagements in the United States and return home to join this race is a demonstration of my commitment to the Nigerian project. If given the opportunity to serve, I will dedicate myself to improving the lives of my people and contributing to the development of our nation,” he added.
