2027: Fubara Backs Tinubu, Wike’s Rainbow Coalition, Declares Rivers Crisis Over
Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has formally declared his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Rainbow Coalition, the political movement spearheaded by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The governor also endorsed the coalition’s governorship candidate, urging his supporters to align with all candidates presented by the political platform.
Fubara made the declaration on Tuesday during the groundbreaking ceremony for the reconstruction and equipping of the Riven Medical Facility, a public-private pharmaceutical manufacturing project in Rivers State.
Announcing what he described as the end of the state’s prolonged political crisis, the governor appealed to residents and his political associates to embrace reconciliation, peace and unity.
He said: “I am supporting our Rainbow Coalition. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is our President, and he is the one we are supporting. The governorship candidate is the candidate I am supporting, and anybody who believes in me will support every candidate under the Rainbow Coalition.”
Fubara also ruled out participating in any activity capable of reigniting political tensions in the state.
“I am not party to anything that will bring any form of disunity in this state. We have done what we need to do, and now we are moving forward,” he added.
The governor’s latest declaration comes months after he reportedly withdrew from the 2027 Rivers State governorship race. The withdrawal was said to be part of a political reconciliation arrangement aimed at resolving the lingering crisis in the state.
FCT Minister Nyesom Wike had earlier disclosed that the peace agreement included the withdrawal of impeachment threats against Fubara on the understanding that the governor would not seek a second term in office. Wike had also criticised Fubara’s earlier move to obtain nomination forms before the governor eventually stepped down from the race.
Speaking on the Riven Medical Facility project, Fubara reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting the investment after receiving assurances on its viability and implementation timeline.
He disclosed that the first phase of the pharmaceutical manufacturing facility is expected to be completed within three months, describing the project as a strategic investment that will accelerate industrialisation, generate employment opportunities and position Rivers State as a leading hub for the production of medical consumables.
According to the governor, the facility will also stimulate economic activities, attract both local and international investors and encourage the emergence of complementary industries around the project.
Fubara assured the investors of the state government’s full cooperation and appealed to members of the host community to provide a peaceful environment that would guarantee the successful execution of the project.
He further revealed that the Rivers State Government is currently involved in litigation with several companies over contractual claims exceeding ₦200 billion, stressing that his administration remains committed to avoiding disputes capable of discouraging investors and slowing the state’s economic growth.
