IPOB Suspends Sit-at-Home Order in South-East
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has suspended its sit-at-home directive that had disrupted social and economic activities across parts of the South-East.
Sources within the group said the decision followed instructions from IPOB leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, who remains in detention. The order, which had restricted movement on designated days, was largely observed by residents and businesses, leading to repeated shutdowns of markets, offices and transport services in several states. However, some states like Enugu had earlier returned near normalcy of activities on the designated days of sit-at-home, using enforcement machinery of government.
Insiders disclosed that Kanu’s directive was intended to ease tension in the region and allow residents to resume normal activities. However, IPOB has yet to issue an official public statement confirming the suspension.
In a chat with Chroniclegist, Kanu’s brother, Prince Emmanuel Kanu, corroborated the development.
Meanwhile, security agencies are said to be monitoring the situation closely to ensure the maintenance of law and order as movement gradually returns to normal.
Analysts believe the suspension could help reduce friction between security agencies and local communities, while providing much-needed relief to residents and traders affected by weeks of economic slowdown linked to the sit-at-home order.
