PDP Guber Candidate, Nnamani, Dismisses Suspension Claim, Insists He Remains Party’s Authentic Flag Bearer in Enugu
The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Enugu State, Chief Samson Nnamani, has dismissed reports alleging that he was suspended from the party, insisting that he remains the duly elected and authentic flag bearer of the PDP ahead of the forthcoming governorship election in the state.
Nnamani, who spoke through his Campaign Media Director, Dr Buchi Nnaji, during a press briefing in Enugu, also maintained that there was no faction within the PDP in the state apart from the national leadership headed by Alhaji Abdulrahman Mohammed, which he described as the only structure recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Addressing journalists, Dr Nnaji said the purported suspension of his principal lacked merit and legal standing, arguing that Chief Nnamani could not have been counted and recognised as having participated in their “purported PDP governorship primary election if he had truly been suspended by them”.
According to him, “It is contradictory and legally untenable for anyone to claim that Chief Samson Nnamani was suspended while the same party included his name among participants in the kangaroo governorship primary election. That alone is sufficient evidence that he remains a recognised member of the PDP.”
He further stated that the governorship primary election which produced Chief Nnamani as candidate was duly monitored and supervised by officials of INEC, adding that the electoral committee constituted for the exercise declared him winner after the completion of the process.
“The primary election that produced Chief Samson Nnamani was conducted in line with laid down procedures and under the supervision of INEC. The electoral committee announced him as the validly elected governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Enugu State,” he said.
Dr Nnaji also dismissed claims surrounding another contender, Chief Uche Nnaji, insisting that the latter remained a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and had neither defected to the PDP nor emerged as its governorship candidate.
“Chief Uche Nnaji remains a prominent member of the APC. He has not defected to the PDP, let alone becoming the governorship flag bearer of our great party,” he stated.
In the press statement made available to journalists, Chief Nnamani expressed appreciation to the leadership of the PDP and supporters across the state for electing him during the party’s governorship primary election held on Sunday, May 24, 2026.
“Let me express my profound gratitude to the leadership of our great Peoples Democratic Party and the teaming supporters that came out in their numbers on Sunday, May 24, 2026, to elect me as their candidate in the forthcoming gubernatorial election in Enugu State,” the statement read.
The PDP governorship candidate assured the people of Enugu State of his commitment to good governance, inclusive leadership, economic development and people-oriented policies if elected into office.
“As the Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate in Enugu State, I remain committed to the ideals of good governance, inclusive leadership, economic development, youth empowerment, quality education, improved healthcare and enhanced security for all residents of the state,” he declared.
He added that his ambition was driven by a desire to build a prosperous and united Enugu State where opportunities would be accessible to all citizens irrespective of political, religious or social differences.
“My aspiration is driven by the desire to build a greater Enugu State where opportunities abound for every citizen, irrespective of political affiliation, religion or social status,” he said.
Nnamani further pledged that his administration would prioritise infrastructure development, industrialisation, job creation and welfare programmes capable of improving the living conditions of the people.
“We shall review and remove policies and practices that are truncating the wellbeing, economic survival and social advancement of the citizens. Government must exist to protect and improve the lives of the people, not to impose unnecessary hardship on them,” the statement added.
He also commended the media for what he described as its critical role in deepening democracy, promoting accountability and keeping the public adequately informed.
“I appreciate members of the media for their continuous role in deepening democracy, promoting accountability and keeping the public informed. Your contributions remain vital to the development of our society,” he stated.
Calling for unity and support across the state, Nnamani urged party faithful, youths, women, traditional rulers and other stakeholders to rally behind his vision for a peaceful and progressive Enugu State.
“As we move forward in this journey, I call on all stakeholders, party faithful, youths, women, traditional rulers and the entire people of Enugu State to join hands with us in building a united, peaceful and progressive state. Together, we can achieve the Enugu of our dreams,” he added.
