CP Giwa Wraps Up Statewide Town Hall Tour, Strengthens Police–Community Alliance in Enugu
The Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, has concluded his statewide interactive Town Hall Meetings with stakeholders across the State’s Area Commands, reaffirming the Command’s commitment to strengthening community policing and sustaining the prevailing peace and security in Enugu State.
The final phase of the engagement was held separately at the Nkanu West Local Government Council Secretariat, Agbani, and the Enugu Sports Club, Enugu, bringing together stakeholders from the Local Government Areas under the Agbani and Enugu Metropolis Area Commands.
The meetings provided a platform for the Commissioner of Police to interact directly with residents, receive feedback on the Command’s operational, investigative and administrative activities, and address concerns, observations and suggestions from participants.
Speaking during the engagements, CP Giwa described the meetings as a significant step towards deepening collaboration between the Police and the communities they serve. According to him, the initiative has further strengthened public confidence in the Police, enhanced community policing efforts and reinforced the partnership required to effectively tackle crime and maintain public order.
He assured residents that the Enugu State Police Command would remain resolute in consolidating its crime-fighting strategies while sustaining the peace, security and stability currently enjoyed across the state.
Stakeholders at both meetings commended the Police Command for its proactive approach to security and acknowledged the remarkable improvement in the security situation across Enugu State. They also applauded CP Giwa for creating an avenue for direct engagement with citizens and urged him to sustain the initiative as a means of promoting transparency, trust and effective policing.
The stakeholders included Local Government Chairmen, traditional and religious leaders, Presidents-General of various communities, transport union officials, hoteliers, traders, women and youth leaders, student representatives, members of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), personnel of sister security agencies, operatives of the Enugu State Forest Guards and the Neighbourhood Watch Group.
The Agbani Town Hall Meeting was attended by the Executive Chairman of Aninri Local Government Area, Prince Ugochukwu Nwanjokwu; the Chairman of Nkanu East Local Government Area, Sydney Ede; and the Executive Chairman of Nkanu West Local Government Area, Chief John Ogbodo, alongside other critical stakeholders within the Area Command.
At the Enugu Metropolis Area Command meeting, the Chairman of Enugu East Local Government Area, Engr Beloved-Dan Anike, and his Enugu North counterpart, Dr Ibenaku Onoh, were present, while the Deputy Chairman represented the Chairman of Enugu South Local Government Area.
Also in attendance were Monday Diamond Ani, General Manager and Chief Executive Officer of the Enugu State Community and Social Development Agency (CSDA); the Chairman of the Enugu State Traditional Rulers Council, Igwe Dr Samuel Ikechukwu Asadu; the Council’s Public Relations Officer, Igwe Dr Emmanuel Ugwu; the Sarki Hausawa of Enugu State, HRH Alhaji Abubakar Yusuf Sambo; the State Chairman of the Police Community Relations Committee, Rev. Bright Alaribe, as well as other opinion leaders and critical security stakeholders.
The conclusion of the Agbani and Enugu Metropolis engagements marks the successful completion of the Commissioner’s statewide Town Hall Meetings, having earlier held similar interactive sessions with stakeholders in the Nsukka, Oji-River and Udenu Area Commands.
The initiative is part of the Command’s broader strategy to institutionalise community-driven policing, strengthen public confidence in law enforcement and foster sustained collaboration in the collective fight against crime across Enugu State.
