Breaking: Senator Ikeje Asogwa Moves to Revive Ada Rice Irrigation Project, Leads Federal Ministry Officials on Site Inspection
Senator Ikeje Asogwa has commenced moves to revive the long-abandoned Ada Rice Irrigation Project as part of efforts to boost agricultural productivity, strengthen food security, and stimulate economic growth across Enugu North Senatorial Zone.
As part of the initiative, the senator, represented by the former Enugu State Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr Matthew Idu, led a high-powered team of officials on an inspection and technical assessment of the irrigation facility.
The delegation comprised representatives of the Federal Ministry of Water Resources, the Enugu State Ministry of Water Resources, the World Bank, and a team of engineers, who visited the project site to evaluate the state of the existing infrastructure.
During the inspection, the team carried out a comprehensive assessment of the irrigation system, examining critical components from the water intake barrage to the rice fields. The exercise was aimed at determining the extent of rehabilitation required to restore the irrigation network to full operational capacity.
The planned revitalisation of the project is expected to enhance year-round rice cultivation, improve agricultural output, create employment opportunities for farmers and youths, and contribute significantly to food security and economic development in Enugu North Senatorial Zone.
Further details of the inspection and the proposed rehabilitation programme are expected to be made available as the assessment progresses.
