Celebrating Legacies and Dividends of Democracy From the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Senator Barau I Jibrin 3 Years in Kano State

The past three years of the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, working in partnership with the distinguished leadership of Senator Barau I. Jibrin Maliya, Deputy President of the Nigerian Senate and a foremost representative of Kano North Senatorial District, have ushered in a new chapter of democratic dividends, strategic development, and renewed hope for the people of Kano State and Nigeria at large.
This period has witnessed remarkable interventions in education, infrastructure, economic empowerment, agriculture, transportation, regional integration, and human capital development, reflecting a commitment towards building a stronger and more prosperous Kano State.
Massive Expansion in Tertiary Education and Human Capital Development.
One of the most outstanding achievements of this era has been the unprecedented attention given to tertiary education in Kano State.
Within a short period of two years, the state has witnessed significant growth in the establishment, upgrade, and support of higher institutions aimed at expanding access to quality education and producing skilled manpower.
The creation and strengthening of institutions of higher learning, alongside federal support for Universities, Polytechnics, Colleges of education, and specialised training centres, represent a major investment in the future of Kano youths.
These educational interventions are creating new opportunities for thousands of young people, reducing pressure on existing institutions, and positioning Kano as a major centre for knowledge, learning, innovation,skills, technology, and professional development in Northern Nigeria.
Regional Development and Economic Integration:
The establishment and strengthening of regional development initiatives, including the North-West Development Commission, marks a historic step towards addressing infrastructure gaps, promoting economic growth, and accelerating development across the region.
Through strategic regional planning, Kano, as the commercial heartbeat of Northern Nigeria, stands to benefit from coordinated investments in agriculture, trade, industrialisation, transportation, and social infrastructure.
The renewed focus on regional development reflects the administration’s understanding that sustainable growth requires collaboration among states and targeted interventions that directly improve the lives of citizens.
Transportation Revolution and Strategic Infrastructure:
The Tinubu/Barau Maliya 3 years have also placed strong emphasis on modern transportation infrastructure and national connectivity.
The Trans-Saharan Railway Project represents a visionary step towards linking Nigeria with neighbouring African countries, strengthening trade routes, improving movement of goods and people, and restoring Nigeria’s historic role as a regional commercial hub.
Kano, with its strategic location and centuries-old trading heritage, is positioned to become one of the major beneficiaries of improved rail connectivity and transnational economic integration.
Other infrastructure interventions, including road rehabilitation, rural connectivity projects, energy development, and improved public facilities, are contributing to a better environment for businesses, investors, and communities.
Agricultural Transformation and Empowerment:
Recognising Kano’s position as an agricultural powerhouse, various empowerment programmes have supported farmers through improved access to farm inputs, equipment, seedlings, fertilisers, and other agricultural resources.
Senator Barau Maliya’s constituency interventions have complemented federal initiatives by providing direct support to farmers, youth, women, and vulnerable groups, strengthening livelihoods and promoting economic independence.
