The recent appointment of Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, former Governor of Enugu State, as Nigeria’s Ambassador to Greece, is a fitting recognition of a man whose public service career has been defined by humility, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to the welfare of the people. His nomination and subsequent posting form part of the Federal Government’s deployment of 65 ambassadors to various diplomatic missions around the world.
This honour, bestowed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is not only a personal milestone for the former governor but also a moment of pride for the people of Enugu State and indeed the entire South-East region of Nigeria.
A Legacy of Service and Humility
Rt Hon. Ugwuanyi, affectionately known as Gburugburu, is widely respected for his calm disposition, inclusive leadership style, and deep grassroots connection with the people. His tenure as Governor of Enugu State from 2015 to 2023 remains memorable for the peace, stability, and people-centered governance that characterised the state during those years.
Throughout his administration, Ugwuanyi placed emphasis on unity, security, and social harmony. Under his leadership, Enugu State witnessed sustained peace and a political atmosphere that encouraged cooperation across party lines, communities, and institutions.
