Adeleke Floors APC’s Oyebamiji, Wins Osun Governorship Poll With 511,067 Votes
Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party has been declared winner of the August 15 governorship election in Osun State, defeating his closest challenger, the All Progressives Congress, APC, candidate, Bola Oyebamiji.
Adeleke, who secured victory in 19 of the state’s 30 local government areas, polled 511,067 votes to emerge victorious, while Oyebamiji garnered 444,815 votes.
The State Returning Officer for the election and Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, Prof. Joshua Ogunwole, announced the final results at about 7:24 a.m. on Sunday.
Ogunwole subsequently declared Adeleke duly elected and returned him as governor for another term.
According to the results announced by the Returning Officer, Adeleke won in Ede North, Ede South, Ejigbo, Iwo, Egbedore, Ife North, Ife East, Ife Central, Oriade, Ifelodun, Orolu, Ayedaade, Ayedire, Odo Otin, Boluwaduro, Ilesa West, Ifedayo, Osogbo and Ayedire local government areas.
Oyebamiji, on the other hand, won in Irewole, Isokan, Olorunda, Atakumosa East, Atakumosa West, Ilesa East, Boripe, Irepodun and Obokun LGAs.
Declaring the final figures, Ogunwole said 1,010,684 voters were accredited, while 1,005,800 votes were recorded as votes cast.
He disclosed that 985,079 votes were valid, while 20,721 votes were rejected.
The Returning Officer also announced the performance of other candidates in the election, with the African Democratic Congress, ADC, candidate, Najeem Salaam, coming a distant third with 17,180 votes.
Following the signing of the result sheets by representatives of the participating political parties, Ogunwole formally declared Adeleke the winner.
He said the governor had satisfied the requirements of the law and was therefore “declared the winner and returned elected” in the August 15 governorship election.
The declaration brings to an end the keenly contested race for the Osun governorship seat, with Adeleke securing a fresh mandate from the electorate to continue in office.
