Enugu CP Rallies Senior Officers, Orders Tighter Security Framework for Yuletide
The Enugu State Police Command has announced a fresh directive from the Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, mandating all senior and supervisory officers to upscale crime-prevention measures and boost operational efficiency as the festive period draws near.
The directive, contained in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, followed the Command’s monthly strategic security conference held at the Senior Police Officers’ Mess, Enugu. The gathering was attended by Deputy and Assistant Commissioners of Police, Area Commanders, Heads of Formations, and leaders of tactical and operational units.
According to the statement, CP Giwa used the meeting to brief the officers on key highlights of the recent Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Senior Officers’ Conference at Force Headquarters, Abuja. Central to the briefing was the IGP’s emphasis—aligned with President Bola Tinubu’s directive—on the immediate withdrawal of Police personnel attached to private individuals, with redeployment to core policing duties across the country.
The move, the Commissioner stressed, is aimed at strengthening manpower availability and boosting proactive security operations ahead of the high-traffic Christmas and New Year season.
He further warned that all directives issued by the IGP, particularly those concerning festive-period security management, must be implemented without fail. CP Giwa noted that residents of Enugu State, including those returning from the diaspora and visitors transiting through the state, rely heavily on the Police for safety at this time of the year.
The statement added that the CP cautioned supervisory officers against negligence, insisting that any lapses would attract strict consequences. He reassured the public that the Command has intensified operational readiness through heightened patrols, intelligence-led deployments, and improved synergy with other security agencies.
The conference gave the officers an opportunity to renew their commitment to strengthening vigilance and tightening security across all divisions and formations within the state.
