The candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for the forthcoming Enugu North Senatorial bye-election, Bishop Oscar Okwudili Ossai, has called for unity among party members and stakeholders, stressing that collective commitment remains crucial to the party’s success in both the bye-election and the 2027 general elections.

Speaking shortly after emerging victorious at the party’s primary election held in Nsukka, Ossai described his emergence as a reflection of the unity, discipline and democratic culture entrenched within the NDC.

According to him, the mandate entrusted to him by party delegates comes at a critical period in the political history of Enugu North Senatorial District, following the demise of the district’s former representative, the late Senator Okey Ezea.

“This mandate comes at a defining moment in our history, following the passing of our revered leader, the late Distinguished Senator Okey Ezea, whose legacy continues to inspire us,” he said.

The cleric-turned-politician expressed appreciation to the national leadership of the party and members of the electoral panel for conducting what he described as a credible, transparent and hitch-free primary election that produced candidates for future electoral contests.

He also commended party faithful for their massive turnout and resilience throughout the exercise, noting that their participation underscored their commitment to strengthening internal democracy within the party.

Ossai dedicated his victory to the memory of the late Senator Ezea and the people of Enugu North Senatorial District, whom he said have continued to yearn for credible, accessible and people-oriented representation at the National Assembly.

“I pledge to serve with integrity, represent with distinction and provide transparent leadership at all times,” Ossai stated.

He expressed confidence that with unity, dedication and the support of the people, the party would record significant victories in the forthcoming bye-election and subsequent electoral contests.
