The farm inputs distribution initiative of the Deputy Chief Whip of the Senate and Senator representing Ebonyi North Senatorial District, Senator Onyekachi Nwebonyi, has berthed in Ebonyi Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, with 1,000 bags of fertilizer distributed to farmers across the council’s 14 electoral wards.

The distribution exercise, which took place at Ugbodo, headquarters of Ebonyi Local Government Area, attracted a large gathering of farmers and stakeholders from the various wards of the council.

The exercise was coordinated by the Farm Inputs Distribution Committee of Senator Nwebonyi and led by his Senior Special Assistant on Community Engagement and Human Welfare, Apostle Benjamin Obeji.

Speaking during the programme, the Chairman of Ebonyi Local Government Area, Prince Chinedu Uburu, commended Senator Nwebonyi for what he described as his sustained commitment to improving agricultural production and promoting food security across Ebonyi North Senatorial District.

Uburu noted that the annual distribution of agricultural inputs had become a significant intervention through which the Senator had continued to support farmers, particularly in an agrarian constituency where farming remains a major source of livelihood.

He also praised Nwebonyi for his legislative interventions and achievements in the 10th Senate, describing his representation as impactful.

The council chairman urged the people of Ebonyi North to reciprocate the Senator’s interventions by supporting him and other candidates of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the 2027 general elections.

He further appealed to the electorate to maintain political alignment among elected representatives at the federal, state and local government levels, arguing that such synergy would facilitate effective governance and development.

Addressing the farmers, the Coordinator of the Farm Inputs Distribution Committee in Ebonyi Local Government Area and APC Chairman, Hon. Patrick Orogbo, commended Senator Nwebonyi for his agricultural intervention and what he described as his remarkable legislative achievements.

Orogbo urged the beneficiaries to remain committed to the programmes of the Senator and the administration of the APC, particularly as the 2027 elections draw closer.

Formally flagging off the distribution, the Senator’s representative, Barr Patrick Mbam, said the annual provision of farm inputs had become one of Nwebonyi’s major constituency intervention programmes.

According to him, the initiative was conceived to provide farmers with essential agricultural inputs, increase crop yields, improve household incomes and contribute to food security in Ebonyi North.

Mbam stressed that the Senator recognised the predominantly agrarian nature of Ebonyi North and understood that access to farm inputs was critical to improving agricultural productivity and strengthening the economic wellbeing of rural communities.

He, however, appealed to the beneficiaries to use the fertilizer strictly for the purpose for which it was provided.

He warned against selling the inputs, urging the farmers to apply them to their farms so that the intended objectives of the intervention could be achieved.

Also speaking, the APC chairmanship candidate for Ebonyi Local Government Area, Hon. Chibueze Odigwe; Coordinator of Ebonyi Development Centre, Hon. Destiny Nwodom; former Coordinator of Mbeke Development Centre, Hon. Godwin Nwode; Special Assistant to the Governor of Ebonyi State on Women Mobilization, Hon. Pauline Nwagu; and Apostle Benjamin Obeji, separately commended Nwebonyi for his interventions and commitment to the development of the senatorial district.
